The Year's Top Ten Tales of Science Fiction (Audiobook)
Publisher: AudioText | 3119 | English | ISBN: 3996633969 | MP3 | 669 Mb
The Year's top Ten Tales of Science Fiction is a superb collection of the year's best stories of the old masters and new masters of Sci-fi. The Narrators such as Tom Dheere, Vanessa Hart and Sue Bilich have a great sense and character of reading and becoming a part of each of the stories in this excellent series.
There are 31 stories here in Volume One and Dheere, Hart and Bilich like I mention it before have perform perfect readings. I will probably one day purchased Volume Two of this still continuing collections. When Amazon finally orders Vol 3 and is available to buy, I will make another review of the second collection.
Anyway back to the basics.
Here is more info of this series.
Sue Blitch does an amazing job reading Paul McAuley's THE CITY OF THE DEAD, she has a great nasua voice and she changes characters during the story from male and females with her voice from the main character to other characters in the story. A Great Story.
Tom Dheere does perform Elizabeth Bear's SHOGGOTHS IN BLOOM and does it very well. Showing the paranoia of Racsim, Segregations towards the Blacks, the Nazi Party, the luncing of the Jews in Europe and the coming World War II. The main character is black Naturalist who tries to unlock the secrets of unusal large blobs of jelly like creatures appearing in a New England bay. Dheere has a great sense of having a Boston ascent or a New English tongue and really brings the listener into the Naturalist's concerns and the worries of the future with his Career, Ten-Year and the approaching war. Another great and very interesting tale of a different type of science fiction.
Vanessa Hart does a Incredible performance in Kij Johnson's 36 MONKEYS, ALSO THE ABYSS. Showing emotion, fear and an uncertainty of the future as a woman and her boyfriend try to manage a small group of monkeys who can vanish in a bathtub and re-appear again hours later. Hart does a grand act of really making this really odd story come to life and have a heart as the main character tries to keep her world from breaking apart as one of her monkeys faces its mortality. A real tragic ending and like I said, a real trick to listen too.
The Ray-Gun: A Love Story is another great tale, Exhalation is really weird, Turing's Apples is also both a harsh and very sad story in this collection, you will see the madness of a scientist trying to proof his beliefs in The Dream of Reason, The Art of Alchemy I haven't listen to it yet, Five Thrillers is great and very action pack; filled with twists and turns, Fixing Hanover is very, very strange and a little distrubing at the end. If you love Sci-fi, than this Audiobook is for you.
I can't wait for Volume 3 and possibly Volume 3.
